On the day of your surgery:
- Plan to arrive 15-30 minutes before your scheduled surgery time
- Use this time to relax and complete any final check-in steps
- Contact our office immediately if you have any questions or need to reschedule
Health and Medication
Your safety is our highest priority. Before your surgery, we will review your medical history together to make sure we have the most up-to-date information about your health.
Please keep the following in mind:
- Inform us of any changes to your health or new allergies
- Let us know if you are taking blood thinners or aspirin, as you may be instructed to pause these temporarily
- Take your regular medications, such as blood pressure medicine, with just a small sip of water unless we instruct otherwise
Fasting Requirements
If you are receiving sedation, preparing your body is essential for your safety. We ask that you follow specific fasting guidelines to minimize any risks during your procedure.
Fasting guidelines include:
- Do not eat or drink anything (including water) for 6-8 hours before your surgery
- Diabetic patients will receive specific instructions tailored to their needs
- Avoid smoking and alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment
Pre-Operative Hygiene
Coming to your appointment feeling fresh and comfortable can help you relax. We recommend focusing on simple hygiene to prepare for your visit.
Hygiene tips for surgery day:
- Brush and floss your teeth thoroughly before arriving
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows us to easily monitor your vitals
- Please avoid wearing makeup, nail polish, or jewelry to your appointment
Transportation and Support
Because sedation medication can make you feel drowsy, you will not be able to drive yourself home. Your safety continues even after you leave our office.
We require that you arrange for a responsible adult—a friend or family member—to drive you home. It is also highly recommended that someone stays with you for at least 24 hours after your surgery to help you rest and recover. Having a supportive companion nearby brings peace of mind as the sedation wears off.
Consent Forms and Paperwork
To keep things moving smoothly on the day of your surgery, please ensure all consent forms are signed and ready. Please bring your photo ID and current insurance information with you. We will also provide you with emergency contact numbers for our practice, so you always have a direct line to us if you have urgent concerns. If you develop a fever, cough, or cold before your surgery, please call us right away so we can decide on the best course of action for your health.
